NEWS:
rabble audio: the rabble podcast network (rpn) just recently launched, offering a mish-mash of alt-voices from across the country. Looks like it's gearing up to be fun and informative, and may even give ol' CBC a run for its money!
SPORTS:
McGill University announced the suspension of its football program for the remainder of the season. This following a 6-week investigation into the hazing of rookies by team vets. Bill Marsden of 19 October's issue of the Gazette reported that
In a statement of shared responsibility, the university says that its investigation found the rookie hazing involved "nudity, degrading positions and behaviours, gagging, touching in inappropriate manners with a broomstick, as well as verbal and physical intimidation of rookies by a large portion of the team."
But noted that McGill kept quiet about what real measures will be taken: "In order to respect due process and the rights and privacy of the individuals, the university will not comment on these actions."
Typical. 5 players were suspended for one game last month, and one was ousted for the season. The suspension of the season amounts to the team being out for two lousy games. boo-hoo. The U hasn't, as yet, apologized for the hazing happening under their umbrella, or to the student who lodged the complaint - who subsequently quit McGill. They have, on the other hand, talked about "rebuilding" the football program, obviously more concerned about their "tradition" than rampant homophobia, violence and humiliation on school grounds.
real life vs. the internet. While everyone and their cat has blogged this already, I just can't not. So. Freakin. Funny!
